New Compliance Standards for Medical Equipment Procurement

NHS Supply Chain has announced updated procurement guidelines that introduce stricter quality and safety standards for medical equipment purchases across the health service.

The new standards require enhanced documentation of equipment safety testing, more rigorous supplier vetting processes, and mandatory compliance with updated EU and UK medical device regulations.

Suppliers will need to demonstrate full traceability of components and materials, ensuring the NHS can confidently verify the provenance and quality of all medical equipment.

Training resources are being provided to procurement teams across all trusts to ensure smooth implementation of the new standards.

The guidelines come into effect from the next quarter, with a six-month transition period for existing contracts.
